It’s December again, and if you’ve visited the Brainstorm for a few years you know that means it is time for the Top 10s of 2022! During these last few weeks of the year I share my favorite reads from the past 12 months. They may be books published in any year, but I cracked their covers for the first time in 2022. I read a ton (just look at my reading count for the year in the lower right) so for a book to make it to the top 10s means it beat out quite a lot of others. In fact, some of these lists made me quite sad because I couldn’t fit on all my favorites in each genre/interest level category (that's why I divided some up by genre)! The books are arranged generally with my tippy top favorite first and runners up following, but honestly, many of these are giant ties for top spot. Clicking on the titles of each book will take you to my full summary and review plus any content notes/trigger warnings. I write these Brainstorms primarily for my ICS Bangkok school community, so everything in these lists are books that are in our libraries or headed to the shelves soon.
This week kicks off with my favorite science fiction and fantasy reads of the year. I’m also including my Lower Grade Graphic Novel, YA/Adult Graphic Novel, and Fiction Leveled Readers top 10s lists in today’s group because most of those just happened to be scifi and fantasy as well, there’s just a couple contemporary fiction mixed in 2 of those lists.
Here’s the Top 10s of 2022s Schedule for this year:
Dec 2: Top 10s in Scifi/Fantasy Fiction, Lower Grade Fiction Graphic Novels (any genre), YA & Adult Fiction Graphic Novels (any genre), and Fiction Leveled Readers (any genre)
Dec 9: Top 10s in Contemporary & Historical Fiction (all levels + graphic novels), and Asian Fiction (any genre)
Dec 16: Nonfiction Books (all levels + graphic novels + leveled readers)
Dec 23: Guest Post: Mrs. Nat’s Top 10s
A refresher on interest levels I use:
Lower Grade = K4-3rd grades
Middle Grade = 3rd – 8th grades
Young Adult = 8th-12th grades
Adult = older than teens
